The role involves leading operations for a category in processed food manufacturing. The position would be responsible for operations across own units and external manufacturing units.

What are the Key Deliverables in this role?

Financial Outcomes

  • Own category-level AOP delivery: COGS, yield, conversion cost, labor productivity, OEE, and working capital (RM/PM/WIP/FG).
  • Build and deploy cost-optimization roadmaps across EMUs and own plants: should-costing, material variance control, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and throughput improvement.
  • Establish robust controls on RM, PM, FG—including reconciliation governance, loss-tree visibility, cycle counting, and alignment with Supply Planning.
  • Review daily/weekly/monthly performance dashboards (MIS) and steer corrective action through the unit leadership.
  • Optimize make vs. buy, capacity allocation, and footprint strategy in collaboration with SCM and Finance.

Customer service

  • Ensure OTIF production vs. demand plan; proactively align with S&OP to mitigate demand/supply risks
  • Enforce and govern Food Safety & Quality standards: FSSAI, FSSC 22000; and EHS standards: ISO 45001, ISO 14001 across EMUs and own units.
  • Ensure regulatory, quality, and stock audit readiness with timely closure of NCs/CAPAs; institutionalize RCA and prevent recurrences at plant/market levels.
  • Partner cross-functionally (SCM, QA, R&D, Commercial, Procurement) to meet launch timelines, service levels, and portfolio transitions.

 

Internal Processes

  • Ensure that quality standards are being maintained while ensuring production volume as per the production volume.
  • Create an operations governance model: tiered reviews, KPIs, SOP harmonization, and SLA-based EMU management.
  • Drive planning discipline: material availability (RM/PM/consumables), production scheduling, changeover optimization, and adherence to shift/line targets (via unit teams).
  • Institutionalize TPM/Lean/Six Sigma: 5S, AM/PM pillars, SMED, visual management; scale best practices across sites.
  • Oversee SAP hygiene: shift-wise postings, month-end closures, stock-accountability bridging SAP vs. physical for both EMUs and own units.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy and vendor account reconciliation tight controls for EMU-managed stocks.
  • Lead manpower planning at a portfolio level; ensure optimal staffing models across shifts while improving productivity and safety behaviors.
  • Manage EMU relationships through performance SLAs, QBRs, audits, and continuous improvement charters; enable vendor capability building where needed.

 

Innovation and Learning

  • Support on R&D Trials
  • Govern Safety, Health, Hygiene, and Food Safety programs; ensure zero severe incidents and sustained culture.
  • Ensure timely closure of audit non-conformities with systemic fixes.
  • Partner with R&D/QA/SCM for trial execution, NPI scale-up, reformulations, and process standardization.
  • Lead process innovation and debottlenecking to unlock capacity, improve yields, and reduce changeover time.
  • Build analytics capability for data-driven decisioning; standardize MIS and visualizations across the network.

 

 

 

 

What are the Critical success factors for the Role?

  • 12–16+ years of manufacturing/operations experience in FMCG/Food/CPG with a mix of own plants and contract/third-party manufacturing.
  • Strong working knowledge of FSSAI, FSSC 22000, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and audit management.
  • Demonstrated success in COGS optimization, TPM/Lean deployment, S&OP alignment, and multi-site governance.
